This major project envisions and captures the experience of people engaging with the ocean. The content of this project is to represent objectively in a surreal and creative portrayal, our engagement as people within the environment and highlight how our environment shapes our form and colours our lives.

Metaphorically, this is portrayed through the lighting and atmosphere of either sunrise or sunset, with a focus on principles of fine art and design including line, shape, form, texture, pattern, repetition, colour, tone, and movement. The surreal aesthetics frame the narrative of suggesting the diversity of the human figure, and its portrayal of anonymity in relation to the impermanent nature of the ocean setting. The research, exploration, experimentation, and collaboration of this major project ensured the experience of my journey in dedicating time and energy in pre-production, production, and deliverance.

Ultimately, the objective of this body of work, is a cohesive series that is interpreted, and experienced by the viewer, bringing colour, amazement and subtle elements of metaphor and detail, through the representative nature of the lens. This series radiates a unique and novel perspective of figure and form, experiencing the delicate relationship within nature, and essentially suggesting aspects of experience, solitude, and existence.

The scope of this project was to visually capture the silhouettes of figures as they engaged by the ocean. Surreal in their representations, the images subtly suggest the different experiences of each individual and their relationship within the everchanging nature of the environment. The ocean’s personality, and its suggestion of being impermanent, is portrayed within the series, with a focus on the variety of different atmosphere, moods, colour variations and dynamism of shifting tones, shape, form, and texture. Objectively, the images connote these daily experiences, in a creatively, surreal portrayal, of the beauty of our shared experience with nature.

This major project structured over 12 weeks, in a process of project management and organisation. The end deliverable promotes my skill, ability, knowledge, commitment, dedication, and creativity as a graduate photographer, and in addition, enhance my independent practice as an emerging photographer and creative practitioner.
